It highlights what’s working well, what needs attention, and the priorities you’ve told us matter most. We’ve also developed an Action Plan to show how we’ll deliver on these priorities.

Location

Knaresborough is full of surprises, a warren of medieval streets and stone staircases that weave their way up and down. The town centre is perched on the cliffs above the River Nidd and the imposing railway viaduct across the Nidd Gorge offers an amazing view to visitors as they arrive by train.

There are plenty of things to do in Knaresborough all year round. The marketplace in the centre of the town offers a great place to enjoy a cup of tea or something delicious and home baked. On a Wednesday stalls fill the marketplace offering tasty produce, whole foods, plants and flowers, as well as pretty much anything else you can imagine, in the ever-popular Knaresborough Market.

At the base of the cliffs on which the town sits, you will find a delightful promenade that traps the sun in summer, with a coastal feel despite being more than 60 miles from the sea. This is a great place to enjoy an ice cream or indulge in the traditional English pastime of ‘simply mucking about in boats’.

Residents enjoy a great mix of amenities, from local cafés and shops to healthcare facilities, schools and supermarkets.

Transport Links

Getting around is easy with regular buses to Leeds, York, Ripon,and Harrogate.Knaresborough also has its own Train station in the town.

Youth Provision and Clubs

Young people can join in activities at Chain Lane Community Hub, as well as joining in plenty of groups including Scouts, Air Cadets, Young Farmers, Dance and Drama, to name a few! Head over to the Neighbourhood links for more exciting youth opportunities.

Sporting Interests or Leisure

Stay active with at Chain Lane Community Hub - various fitness classes are on offer for all ages and fitness levels. The River Nidd also offers a spectacular waterside walk with spectacular views of the castle and Mother Shiptons Cave

Did you know.....

The location is described in the origins of the name Knaresborough; “knarre” meaning rocky outcrop in Anglo-Saxon, and “burgh” meaning fortress. Originally, Knaresborough was simply the “fortress on the rock”, and the settlement developed around the castle.

After reviewing our Neighbourhood Plan, we have decided that we will amend the bi monthly drop in sessions to quarterly, due to lack of people attending.

I have been working closely with the police in Knaresborough to tackle Antisocial Behaviour around our schemes and we have had some great outcomes.
Your local PSCO is Matt Murphy, can regularly be seen around town, and is always willing to attend joint visits with your Neighbourhood Officer.
