Gipton and Harehills sits in the east of Leeds, close to Roundhay Road and Harehills Lane. Known for its rich cultural diversity and strong community spirit, it’s an area where neighbours and local organisations work closely together.

Residents enjoy a wide range of amenities, from local shops and cafés along Harehills Lane and Roundhay Road to the Compton Centre and Bangladeshi Centre. Hidden gems include Banstead Park, Gipton Woods and the historic Harehills Park, which hosts community events and family activities throughout the year.

Gipton and Harehills is part of the Gipton and Harehills ward. Your councillors, Asghar Ali, Mothin Ali and Salma Arif are active in supporting local initiatives and community projects across the area.

Getting around is easy with regular bus routes connecting Harehills, Gipton and Leeds city centre. The area is only a short journey from central Leeds, with excellent links via York Road and Roundhay Road.

Explore local green spaces including Harehills Park and Fearnville Recreation Ground for peaceful walks, sports and family activities. Residents also enjoy the outdoor spaces around Gipton Beck and the nearby woodland areas.

Young people can get involved in sports, arts and youth activities at the Compton Centre, Hamara Healthy Living Centre and CATCH Leeds. Look out for local outreach sessions, cultural celebrations and summer community events throughout the area.

Stay active at local gyms and sports facilities including Fearnville Leisure Centre. Cheer on community football teams or take part in fitness groups, walking clubs and local wellbeing sessions.

Gipton and Harehills has a fascinating history shaped by generations of communities from across the world. Did you know Harehills was once home to some of Leeds’ earliest tram routes and remains one of the city’s most vibrant and multicultural neighbourhoods?
