Keeping Our Community Safe – Free Safety Resources Available
As part of our ongoing commitment to creating a safer and more secure neighbourhood, we’re pleased to offer a range of free community safety items to residents. These resources are designed to help prevent anti-social behaviour, improve home security, and support personal safety.
Available items include:
- Personal alarms for added reassurance when out and about
- Window and door alarms to alert you to unexpected access
- Door chains and wedge alarms for extra entryway protection
- Sash jammers and window restrictors to reinforce vulnerable points
- CCTV stickers (internal and external) and dummy CCTV cameras to deter unwanted behaviour
- Soft closers and slam stops for internal doors to reduce noise and damage
- Appliance mats to help with household safety and organisation
If you’re experiencing safety concerns or would like to request any of these items, please contact your Neighbourhood Officer. We’re here to support you in making your home and community a safer place to live.
QUICK POLLS
Please get involved in taking part in the polls at the bottom of the page. Your opinions and feedback are important to us.
We’re planning to hold the community event on Tuesday, 21st October 2025, in Armley. The focus will be on Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) and Environmental Health, particularly around issues like waste management and fly-tipping.
More details—including the specific location and schedule—will be shared in due course, but we’re aiming to engage residents and partners in meaningful conversations and actions around these topics.
Borrowdale Crescent Garden Project
Garden Access Improvement Scheme
Leeds Federated Housing Association is undertaking an access improvement scheme to help customers maintain their gardens. The scheme involves extending garden areas by building retaining walls to create tiered gardens. The newly created areas will be turfed and fenced off to provide usable garden space.
Works have commenced and, depending on weather conditions, are expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.
Phase 1 (Properties 96 - 104) was completed in March 2025.
Phase 2 (Properties 82 - 92) is currently in progress.
Please note that there are no remaining funds available for this financial year. Any additional properties will be assessed for inclusion in the next financial year.
Property No. 92 previously received large-scale landscaping funded by Leeds Federated. As such, there are currently no plans to undertake further works at this address.
Several restaurants and cafes offer deals where kids eat free, or for a reduced price, when accompanied by a paying adult. Some popular options include Bella Italia, TGI Fridays, Morrisons cafes, and Brewers Fayre. Many of these offers are available during specific times, school holidays, or with the purchase of an adult meal. Check online for more details.
Shelter's Money Information Sessions
I’m excited to share that our Money Information Sessions are launching this week!
We’re kicking things off at Leeds Mind and will be rolling out sessions across the city in partnership with a range of local organisations.
With the support of Shelter volunteers, these sessions aim to support individuals facing challenges with living costs and work towards preventing homelessness. The sessions will cover money saving tips, guidance on where to access financial support, and offer signposting to relevant services – ensuring attendees can access the broader help they may need.
We hope these sessions will also help reduce waiting lists for financial advice services – so please do share with your clients and service users.

On Street Parking
To ensure everyone can move safely and efficiently, cars parked on driveways should be positioned thoughtfully. Vehicles should be pulled fully onto the drive, leaving the pavement completely clear for pedestrians, including those with mobility aids or pushing prams. It's also important to consider turning spaces, avoiding any obstruction that would prevent other vehicles from manoeuvring. Finally, driveways must be parked on in a way that allows unobstructed access for larger vehicles like emergency services and bin lorries, which often require extra room to navigate tight corners and access properties.
Garden update
There are five properties 96 -104 Borrowdale Crescent that we have been addressing the steep gardens. Work has been ongoing to help resident to mange their own gardens in the future. Contracts have been onsite since February 2025.We hope that the works will allow for safe use of the garden due to the steep incline.
Litter Free Leeds
Hey folks, just wanted to share something that might be helpful if things are a bit tight right now. There are some great local initiatives working to make sure good food doesn't go to waste and gets to people who need it.
Basically, they team up with businesses to rescue perfectly good surplus food and then share it with the community. It's a win-win: less waste and more support for families.
If you're finding it hard to put food on the table, it might be worth looking into these kinds of projects in our neighbourhood. They're doing some really important work.
It's fantastic to see so many people in Leeds getting involved with Litter Free Leeds! Having over 50 groups regularly litter picking across the city shows a real community spirit and commitment to keeping our neighbourhoods clean and tidy. It sounds like a great way for people to connect with their local area and make a tangible difference.
