Church Fenton is a welcoming village located east of Leeds, between Tadcaster and Sherburn in Elmet. Known for its strong community spirit, rural surroundings and excellent transport connections, it offers a peaceful village lifestyle while remaining well connected to nearby towns and cities.
Residents enjoy a range of local amenities including independent shops, cafés, pubs and everyday services within the village. Popular local spots include the White Horse pub, St Mary’s Church and the village sports and social clubs. The surrounding countryside and nearby public footpaths provide plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and enjoying the outdoors.
Church Fenton sits within the North Yorkshire Council area and is supported by local parish councillors who help organise community initiatives, village events and local improvement projects. The village has an active community association and regular events throughout the year bring residents together.
Getting around is easy with Church Fenton railway station providing direct rail links to Leeds, York and Hull. The village is conveniently located near the A162 and A64, making travel across North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire straightforward. Leeds city centre is around 15 miles away.
Residents enjoy access to green spaces, sports pitches and countryside walks throughout the area. The nearby River Wharfe and local rural routes are popular with walkers, runners and cyclists.
Young people can get involved in local sports teams, scouting groups and community activities hosted in the village hall and recreation grounds. Seasonal fairs, gala days and family events help create a strong sense of community throughout the year.
Stay active with local fitness classes, cricket and football clubs, or enjoy outdoor recreation in the surrounding countryside. Residents also benefit from easy access to leisure facilities in nearby Sherburn in Elmet and Selby.
Church Fenton has a fascinating history dating back to medieval times and later became well known for RAF Church Fenton, a former Royal Air Force station that played an important role during the Second World War.
