Your neighbourhood plan for Headingley
Introduction
Welcome to the Headingley neighbourhood page — your local hub for news, updates, plans and ways to get involved in the community. This space is here to keep you informed about what’s happening in your neighbourhood and how we’re working to make Headingley a place that makes a positive contribution to the neighbourhood, keeps you informed about things that matter to you, and provides real opportunities to share your views and see action taken.
Here you’ll find the Headingley Neighbourhood Plan, developed from resident feedback, showing what’s going well, what needs attention, and the priorities you’ve told us matter most. There’s also an action plan so you can see how we’ll deliver on these priorities.

Plus — every month we’re offering a £30 voucher to someone who interacts on the Your Voice site — whether that’s leaving a comment, completing a survey, or posting something creative. So get involved and have your say!

Its position along Otley Road makes it easy to reach the rest of Leeds while still feeling like a distinct place where neighbours know each other.
Local Amenities
Headingley offers a wide range of amenities that make everyday life convenient and enjoyable. At the heart of the area is the Headingley Central shopping precinct, once the Arndale Centre, which includes essentials like Sainsbury’s, Superdrug, Wilko and the local Post Office. Nearby you’ll find a mix of independent shops, charity shops and boutiques, cafés, restaurants and pubs lining Otley Road and surrounding streets.
Cafés and eateries range from relaxed coffee spots to established restaurants — there really is something for everyone’s taste. Headingley Library on North Lane is a popular local resource for books, events and community info.
Council Wards and Councillors
Headingley is represented within the city’s local ward structure, and your councillors play an active role in supporting community projects and local priorities. They’re a great first point of contact if you want to get involved with community planning or raise an issue affecting local residents. Details of your ward contacts and how to reach them are available through the Leeds City Council website or community centers.

Local Walks
Headingley is surrounded by green spaces and scenic walking routes:
Beckett Park — a beloved local park complete with lawns, gardens, woodland, and tennis courts — great for picnics, gentle walks or meeting up with friends.
Woodhouse Ridge and nearby green corridors provide quieter trails for peaceful strolls or brisk walks, perfect throughout the seasons.
Headingley’s proximity to Meanwood Valley Trail and other neighbourhood parks means longer exploration is right on your doorstep.
These spaces are ideal for residents of all ages — including older adults — offering accessible paths, seating and plenty of fresh air.
Youth Provision and Clubs
Headingley supports creative and physical activities for younger residents through local sports clubs, drama and arts groups at community venues like the HEART Centre, and play activities in parks and communal spaces. There’s always something happening — from youth drama and arts workshops to community choirs and active clubs.

Many local cafés and venues also offer accessible social spaces where residents can meet informally, enjoy events, talks or classes, and stay socially connected.
Historical or Special Features
Headingley has a rich past stretching back to the Victorian era and beyond. A fascinating piece of its history includes the Leeds Zoological and Botanical Gardens, a short-lived 19th-century attraction whose remnants still influence local heritage and street layout today.
