Belle Isle sits in the south of Leeds, forming part of the wider Middleton area and lying close to Middleton Railway. Known for its strong sense of community, it’s an area where neighbours look out for one another and local pride runs deep.
Residents benefit from a range of everyday amenities. Local shopping options include Belle Isle Circus and nearby retail areas in Middleton, with supermarkets such as Aldi and the Middleton shopping district. Healthcare is provided by Belle Isle Health Centre, alongside pharmacies and other essential services serving the wider Middleton community.
Green space is a defining feature of the area. Belle Isle Park provides open space for recreation, while nearby Middleton Park is one of the largest parks in Leeds, with ancient woodland, walking trails, and regular events. The park is also home to Middleton Railway, the world’s oldest continuously running railway, offering heritage rides and family activities throughout the year.
Belle Isle is part of the Middleton Park ward. Local councillors Rob Chesterfield, Wayne Dixon, Emma Pogson-Golden are active in supporting initiatives across Belle Isle and Middleton, including environmental improvements, community safety, and local events.
Getting around is straightforward, with regular bus services running along Belle Isle Road and Middleton Road into Leeds city centre, around 3–4 miles away. The area also benefits from easy access to the M621 and key routes connecting Middleton with the wider city.
For families and young people, Middleton offers a range of opportunities, including local schools, community centres, and activities held in and around Middleton Park. Seasonal events, fun days, and community programmes help bring residents together throughout the year.
Staying active is easy, with access to local खेल pitches, walking routes, and fitness opportunities throughout Middleton. Residents can take part in community sports groups or enjoy informal exercise in the area’s many green spaces.
Belle Isle and Middleton share a rich heritage shaped by Leeds’ industrial and mining past. Today, that history sits alongside a strong and evolving community spirit, with ongoing investment and regeneration helping to shape the future of the area.

Through our community-based approach, we’re finding new ways to increase our presence in local communities and make a positive impact on our customers, local businesses, and charities.
Recently, our Neighbourhood Officer, Sharon Lanceley, coordinated a community event in Belle Isle where members of Leeds Federated rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty planting trees in Woodville Square.
In collaboration with Leeds City Council and Fruit Works, a social enterprise that helps communities in Bradford and Leeds to plant and maintain fruit trees, we have secured a plot of land across from the flats at Woodville Square.
