Burley sits just to the west of Leeds city centre, between Headingley and Kirkstall. Known for its strong community spirit and vibrant student and residential mix, it’s an area where independent businesses, green spaces and local culture come together.

Residents enjoy a great range of local amenities, from independent cafés and shops along Burley Road and Cardigan Road to nearby supermarkets including Aldi and Asda Kirkstall. Local favourites include Hyde Park Book Club, the Brudenell Social Club and the historic Kirkstall Abbey. Burley Park and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal offer peaceful green spaces and walking routes close to home.

Burley is part of the Kirkstall ward. Your councillors, Javaid Akhtar, Kayleigh Brooks and Abigail Marshall Katung, are active in supporting local initiatives and community projects across the area.

Getting around is easy with regular buses running along Burley Road into Leeds city centre, as well as Burley Park railway station providing quick rail links across Leeds and West Yorkshire. The area is less than two miles from the city centre and is well connected for walking and cycling.

Residents enjoy spending time outdoors at Burley Park, Kirkstall Abbey grounds and the nearby Woodhouse Moor. The Leeds and Liverpool Canal towpath is popular for walking, running and cycling.

Young people can get involved with local sports clubs, arts programmes and community activities through nearby venues including the Cardigan Centre and community organisations across Headingley and Kirkstall. Seasonal events, local markets and festivals bring the neighbourhood together throughout the year.

Stay active at gyms and fitness studios on Burley Road and Kirkstall Road, or support local teams including Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United. Community fitness groups, running clubs and social sports leagues are popular across the area.

Burley has a rich industrial and cultural history, from its Victorian terraced streets and textile heritage to its long-standing live music scene. Did you know that the nearby Brudenell Social Club has become one of the UK’s most iconic independent music venues?
