Halton Moor is a proud community in east Leeds, close to Temple Newsam and just a few miles from the city centre. Known for its strong local identity and resilient spirit, it’s an area where neighbours look out for one another and community connections matter.

Residents benefit from a range of local amenities, including convenience stores on Selby Road, nearby supermarkets at Cross Gates Shopping Centre and healthcare services such as Halton Medical Practice. Local favourites include Temple Newsam Park, with its historic house, gardens and open green space, alongside the Wykebeck Way walking and cycling route.

Halton Moor is part of the Temple Newsam ward. Your councillors, Debra Coupar and Helen Hayden are active in supporting local initiatives and community projects across east Leeds.

Getting around is simple with regular bus routes along Selby Road and easy access into Leeds city centre, which is around 3 miles away. Cross Gates railway station is also nearby for wider travel connections across West Yorkshire.

Residents enjoy spending time outdoors at Temple Newsam Estate, one of Leeds’ most popular green spaces, with woodland walks, playing fields and family events throughout the year. Smaller local green spaces and play areas around the estate are well used by families and young people.

Young people can take part in activities and youth sessions through local community organisations and sports groups in east Leeds, with nearby facilities in Cross Gates and Colton offering football, dance and creative programmes during school holidays and weekends.

Stay active at facilities such as Fearnville Leisure Centre or local gyms in Cross Gates Retail Park. Residents also enjoy walking, cycling and outdoor fitness routes around Temple Newsam and the Wykebeck trail.

Halton Moor has a fascinating history dating back to the expansion of Leeds in the 1930s, when much of the estate was built to provide new housing for growing communities across the city. Today, the area continues to evolve, with ongoing regeneration and investment helping to shape its future while maintaining its strong community roots.
