Holbeck sits just south of Leeds city centre and is one of the city’s most historic and characterful communities. Known for its strong community spirit and industrial heritage, Holbeck is a place where neighbours look out for one another and local pride runs deep.

Residents enjoy a great mix of amenities, from independent cafés and local shops to nearby supermarkets and health services. Popular local spots include Slung Low at Holbeck Working Men’s Club, the award-winning Northern Monk Refectory, and the historic Midnight Bell pub. Holbeck Moor provides open green space for walking, football and community events, while the Leeds and Liverpool Canal offers scenic routes into the city centre.

Holbeck is part of the Beeston and Holbeck ward. Your councillors, Shaf Ali, Annie Maloney and Andrew Scopes are active in supporting local initiatives and community projects across the area.

Getting around is easy with regular bus services along Domestic Street, Elland Road and Holbeck Moor Road, as well as excellent walking and cycling routes into Leeds city centre. Leeds Train Station is also within easy reach for many residents.

Residents enjoy spending time outdoors at Holbeck Moor and nearby Cross Flatts Park, with plenty of opportunities for walking, sport and family activities. The area is also close to the wider South Bank regeneration area, bringing new investment and opportunities into the community.

Young people can take part in sports, arts and youth activities through local organisations including Slung Low, Holbeck Together and nearby community centres. Throughout the year, residents enjoy community events, local performances and neighbourhood activities that bring people together.

Stay active with nearby gyms and fitness facilities, or support local teams including Leeds United at nearby Elland Road. Community football sessions, running groups and fitness classes regularly take place across South Leeds.

Holbeck has a fascinating history and played a major role in the Industrial Revolution. The area is home to Temple Works, one of Leeds’ most iconic historic buildings, and was once at the heart of the city’s engineering and manufacturing industries. Did you know that Holbeck is often described as one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution in Leeds?

A Neighbourhood Plan sets out our commitment to you and your community. We want to help build a strong community with you, your neighbours, local businesses, local charities and so many more.

No-one knows your neighbourhood better than you and your neighbours, so to work out how the plan might look, we want to be guided by you.

A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.

A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.

We want to know what's important to you and what you'd like to see in your community. We also want to hear what works well; is there someone in your community doing wonderful things for others that should be celebrated? Do you have an idea for your community, such as setting up a group activity that you’d like to arrange but need funding or resources to set it up? We can’t promise we can help with everything but let’s start the conversation.

    Take part in the Survey

We'd love to hear from you and begin to get an understanding of how you feel about your neighbourhood.

Have your say now by taking part in the survey - this should only take a couple minutes to complete. Your answers will only be visible to Leeds Federated staff, and we'd really welcome your honest feedback.

Click the link to the survey at the bottom of this page to get started!

    What's Next?

We'll be arranging walkabouts in your community soon and they will appear as 'Key Dates' on the right-hand side of this page.

We are also looking into arranging a drop-in session in your area as a further opportunity to discuss creating this Neighbourhood Plan for your community if there is interest shown to have this. Additionally, we are brainstorming lots of different ways you can get involved and we would appreciate your input on the survey!

    Stay up to date

If you would like to be kept updated about more opportunities to have your say, please follow this page by clicking the 'subscribe' button on the right-hand side to receive notifications.
