Tockwith, Boston Spa and Wetherby sit to the north-east of Leeds, offering a blend of rural charm and vibrant village life. Known for their strong sense of community, these areas are places where neighbours know each other and local traditions are well kept.
Residents enjoy a great mix of amenities. In Tockwith, you’ll find local favourites like the Tockwith Village Store and welcoming pubs such as The Spotted Ox. Boston Spa offers a bustling high street with independent shops, cafés and services including Boston Spa Medical Centre. Meanwhile, Wetherby provides a wider range of options, from supermarkets like Morrisons and Sainsbury’s to its popular market and riverside walks.
Hidden gems include the scenic banks of the River Wharfe in Wetherby, perfect for peaceful strolls, and the historic Tockwith Airfield, which hosts community and aviation events. Boston Spa’s Millennium Gardens is another much-loved green space for families and relaxation.
These areas fall within local wards represented by councillors including Andy Paraskos, Alan Lamb and Penny Stables who support community initiatives and local development. Residents are encouraged to engage with local forums and parish councils to have their say.
Getting around is straightforward, with regular bus services connecting Boston Spa and Wetherby to Leeds, Harrogate and York. Tockwith offers easy road access to the A1(M), making it ideal for commuters, while all three locations maintain a peaceful, semi-rural feel.
For outdoor space, residents can enjoy walks along the River Wharfe, explore nearby countryside trails, or relax in local parks such as Wetherby Ings. These green spaces are central to community life and wellbeing.
Young people have access to sports clubs, youth groups and community activities across the area, including cricket clubs in Tockwith, tennis and fitness facilities in Boston Spa, and a range of organised sports and events in Wetherby.
Stay active with local gyms and fitness classes, or support community sports teams and events throughout the year. Wetherby Racecourse also provides a popular venue for both sporting and social occasions.
Tockwith, Boston Spa and Wetherby each have a rich history—from Wetherby’s role as a historic market town and coaching stop, to Boston Spa’s origins as a Georgian spa village, and Tockwith’s links to wartime aviation. Together, they offer a distinctive mix of heritage, community spirit and modern living.

Can anyone else be made eligible for free FEAST places?
- As defined by the Department for Education, FEAST is primarily for children and young people who receive benefits-related free school meals.
- However, schools can also make a small number of additional children and young people eligible by exception if they face significant financial and/or other disadvantage.
- There are limits on how many children/young people can be made eligible by exception, to ensure that the focus of the programme remains on the Department for Education’s key audience: those on benefits-related free school meals.
- If you believe your child should be made eligible for FEAST, please contact their school to request this. Individual schools have been given the responsibility to make additional children eligible by exception.
- Schools are not required to automatically issue vouchers to ‘eligible by exception’ children/young people who have received vouchers historically.
Transport
Transport requests for the summer holidays will open on Thursday 25th June.
You can find our transport request form and more information about the transport we can offer here: Transport to a FEAST Activity - North Yorkshire Together

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?

We’d like to work with you to create a Neighbourhood Plan for your area.
What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
A Neighbourhood Plan sets out our commitment to you and your community. We want to help build a strong community with you, your neighbours, local businesses, local charities and so many more.
No-one knows your neighbourhood better than you and your neighbours, so to work out how the plan might look, we want to be guided by you.
A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.
We want to know what's important to you and what you'd like to see in your community. We also want to hear what works well; is there someone in your community doing wonderful things for others that should be celebrated? Do you have an idea for your community, such as setting up a group activity that you’d like to arrange but need funding or resources to set it up? We can’t promise we can help with everything but let’s start the conversation.
Take part in the Survey
We'd love to hear from you and begin to get an understanding of how you feel about your neighbourhood.
Have your say now by taking part in the survey - this should only take a couple minutes to complete. Your answers will only be visible to Leeds Federated staff, and we'd really welcome your honest feedback.
Click the link to the survey at the bottom of this page to get started!
