Whincup Gardens sits in the south of Leeds, close to Hunslet and just a short distance from the city centre. Known for its friendly atmosphere and strong community spirit, it’s a place where neighbours feel connected and local pride runs deep.
Residents enjoy access to a range of nearby amenities, including local convenience stores, supermarkets such as Aldi and ASDA, healthcare services and welcoming local cafés and pubs. Hidden gems nearby include Hunslet Lake Park, offering green space and play areas for children, while the nearby Middleton Railway hosts family-friendly events and heritage experiences throughout the year.
Whincup Gardens is part of the Hunslet and Riverside ward. Your councillors, Mohammed Iqbal, Ed Carlisle and Paul Wray are active in supporting local initiatives and community projects across the area.
Getting around is easy with regular bus routes connecting Hunslet to Leeds city centre. The area is around 3 miles from central Leeds, making commuting, shopping and leisure activities convenient for residents.
Residents can enjoy nearby green spaces including Hunslet Lake Park and Middleton Park, both ideal for walking, cycling and spending time outdoors. Grove Road Recreation Ground also provides open space for local families and young people.
Young people can take part in sports, youth activities and arts programmes at the Hunslet Club, one of the city’s best-known youth organisations. Community outreach sessions and seasonal events regularly take place across the local area during the summer months.
Stay active with nearby gyms and leisure facilities, including PureGym Hunslet, as well as local fitness groups and sports clubs. Residents also enjoy supporting local rugby league side Hunslet RLFC, a club with deep roots in the community.
Whincup Gardens is surrounded by the rich industrial and social history of South Leeds. From the heritage of Middleton Railway, the world’s oldest continuously running railway, to the traditional red-brick terraces that shaped the area, Hunslet remains an important part of Leeds’ story.

Housing Hub in Leeds City Centre
We’ll be hosting monthly drop-in sessions on the last Friday of every month. Whether you want to book an appointment or just pop in while you're in town, our friendly staff team will be there to welcome you, with a hot drink, and some activities to enjoy.
