Woodhouse sits just north of Leeds city centre, close to the University of Leeds and Woodhouse Moor. Known for its vibrant and diverse community, it’s an area where students, families and long-term residents live side by side.

Residents enjoy a great mix of amenities, from independent shops and cafés along Woodhouse Lane to nearby supermarkets including Sainsbury’s and Aldi. Local highlights include Woodhouse Moor, one of Leeds’ most popular green spaces, as well as Hyde Park Picture House and the Leeds University Union which hosts events throughout the year.

Woodhouse is part of the Little London and Woodhouse ward. Your councillors, Javaid Akhtar, Kayleigh Brooks and Abigail Marshall Katung are active in supporting local initiatives, community safety and neighbourhood improvements. Find out more or get involved through Leeds City Council.

Getting around is easy with regular buses running along Woodhouse Lane, Meanwood Road and Clay Pit Lane into Leeds city centre. The area is within walking distance of the city centre, Leeds Beckett University and the University of Leeds.

Explore Woodhouse Moor for peaceful walks, sports and outdoor events. Residents also enjoy nearby green spaces including Hanover Square Gardens and the Meanwood Valley Trail.

Young people can take part in sports clubs, youth activities and arts programmes through local community centres, Leeds University Union outreach projects and nearby facilities in Little London and Hyde Park. Look out for local community events and activities throughout the summer months.

Stay active at The Edge sports centre at the University of Leeds or nearby gyms and fitness studios in the city centre. Cheer on local teams like Leeds United or take part in community fitness groups and social sports sessions on Woodhouse Moor.

Woodhouse has a fascinating history, from its Victorian terraces and student heritage to its long-standing role as a gateway between Leeds city centre and Headingley. Did you know that Hyde Park Picture House, just nearby, is one of the oldest gas-lit cinemas in the UK?

A Neighbourhood Plan sets out our commitment to you and your community. We want to help build a strong community with you, your neighbours, local businesses, local charities and so many more.

No-one knows your neighbourhood better than you and your neighbours, so to work out how the plan might look, we want to be guided by you.

A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.

We want to know what's important to you and what you'd like to see in your community. We also want to hear what works well; is there someone in your community doing wonderful things for others that should be celebrated? Do you have an idea for your community, such as setting up a group activity that you’d like to arrange but need funding or resources to set it up? We can’t promise we can help with everything but let’s start the conversation.
