Halton Moor is a proud community in east Leeds, close to Temple Newsam and just a few miles from the city centre. Known for its strong local identity and resilient spirit, it’s an area where neighbours look out for one another and community connections matter.
Residents benefit from a range of local amenities, including convenience stores on Selby Road, nearby supermarkets at Cross Gates Shopping Centre and healthcare services such as Halton Medical Practice. Local favourites include Temple Newsam Park, with its historic house, gardens and open green space, alongside the Wykebeck Way walking and cycling route.
Halton Moor is part of the Temple Newsam ward. Your councillors, Debra Coupar and Helen Hayden are active in supporting local initiatives and community projects across east Leeds.
Getting around is simple with regular bus routes along Selby Road and easy access into Leeds city centre, which is around 3 miles away. Cross Gates railway station is also nearby for wider travel connections across West Yorkshire.
Residents enjoy spending time outdoors at Temple Newsam Estate, one of Leeds’ most popular green spaces, with woodland walks, playing fields and family events throughout the year. Smaller local green spaces and play areas around the estate are well used by families and young people.
Young people can take part in activities and youth sessions through local community organisations and sports groups in east Leeds, with nearby facilities in Cross Gates and Colton offering football, dance and creative programmes during school holidays and weekends.
Stay active at facilities such as Fearnville Leisure Centre or local gyms in Cross Gates Retail Park. Residents also enjoy walking, cycling and outdoor fitness routes around Temple Newsam and the Wykebeck trail.
Halton Moor has a fascinating history dating back to the expansion of Leeds in the 1930s, when much of the estate was built to provide new housing for growing communities across the city. Today, the area continues to evolve, with ongoing regeneration and investment helping to shape its future while maintaining its strong community roots.

We’ll be in your area again on 13th July – all residents are welcome to join the area visit. We’ll be walking around the area, checking for repairs, health and safety issues and neighbourhood management issues. We want to hear from youContinue reading

What is a Neighbourhood Plan?
Share What is a Neighbourhood Plan? on Facebook Share What is a Neighbourhood Plan? on Twitter Share What is a Neighbourhood Plan? on Linkedin Email What is a Neighbourhood Plan? linkA Neighbourhood Plan sets out our commitment to you and your community. We want to help build a strong community with you, your neighbours, local businesses, local charities and so many more.
No-one knows your neighbourhood better than you and your neighbours, so to work out how the plan might look, we want to be guided by you.
A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.

A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.
We want to know what's important to you and what you'd like to see in your community. We also want to hear what works well; is there someone in your community doing wonderful things for others that should be celebrated? Do you have an idea for your community, such as setting up a group activity that you’d like to arrange but need funding or resources to set it up? We can’t promise we can help with everything but let’s start the conversation.
Take part in the Survey
We'd love to hear from you and begin to get an understanding of how you feel about your neighbourhood.
Have your say now by taking part in the survey - this should only take a couple minutes to complete. Your answers will only be visible to Leeds Federated staff, and we'd really welcome your honest feedback.
Click the link to the survey at the bottom of this page to get started!
What's Next?
We'll be arranging drop-in sessions and walkabouts in your community soon.
We are also looking into arranging a drop-in session in your area as a further opportunity to discuss creating this Neighbourhood Plan for your community if there is interest shown to have this. Additionally, we are brainstorming lots of different ways you can get involved and we would appreciate your input on the survey!
