You’ll find your Neighbourhood Plan here (just click or tap the image below)
Your plan has been created using your feedback from recent surveys. It highlights what’s working well, what needs attention, and the priorities you’ve told us matter most. We’ve also developed an Action Plan to show how we’ll deliver on these priorities.
This page is your hub for updates, news, and ways to get involved. Check out the newsfeed below for the latest, explore other pages for wider projects, and discover how you can share your ideas or join in.
Plus, a little bonus: every month, we’re giving away a £30 voucher to someone who interacts on the Your Voice site – whether that’s leaving a comment, completing a survey, or sharing something creative. So, get involved and have your say!
Location
Meanwood is a leafy, vibrant suburb in north‑west Leeds, sitting within the Moortown ward and the Leeds North East parliamentary constituency. It has a distinct village feel while being just minutes from the city centre, bordered by Headingley, Chapel Allerton and Adel.
Local Amenities
Meanwood offers everything from big‑name supermarkets to much‑loved independents. Residents benefit from Asda, Aldi and Waitrose, alongside cafés, bars and restaurants such as East of Arcadia and Zucco. The area also includes a medical centre, post office, health centres, a library and a dental surgery.
Green spaces are a huge part of daily life here. Meanwood Park spans 29 hectares with woodland, open fields, picnic spots, play areas and its well‑known footbridges over Meanwood Beck. The park connects directly into The Hollies and the Meanwood Valley Trail.
Council Wards and Local Councillors
Meanwood sits within the Moortown Ward, represented by Leeds City Councillors including Sharon Hamilton and Mohammed Shahzad. Residents can get involved in local democracy through ward meetings, consultations and community projects.
Community groups such as the Meanwood Valley Partnership also encourage residents to take part in local environmental projects and neighbourhood improvements.
Transport Links
Getting around Meanwood is easy thanks to regular bus routes including the 7, 38, 39, 91 and 781, which connect to Leeds city centre, Chapel Allerton, Headingley and wider West Yorkshire.
For rail travel, Burley Park and Headingley stations are just over a mile from Meanwood, offering quick links across the region.
For commuting by car, the area has convenient access to the Ring Road, and Leeds Bradford Airport is only a short distance away.
Local Walks
Meanwood is famous for its beautiful green walking routes. The Meanwood Valley Trail is one of Leeds’ best‑known trails – a 7‑mile route stretching from Woodhouse Moor through Meanwood Park and Adel Woods to Golden Acre Park. It offers woodland paths, streams, wildlife and scenic picnic spots.
Meanwood Park itself provides peaceful walks, access to The Hollies’ historic landscaped gardens, and routes into Scotland Wood.
If you enjoy longer or more adventurous walks, the trail links into the Leeds Country Way, making it easy to explore further afield.
Youth Provision and Clubs
Meanwood has a strong community focus on activities for children and young people.

Historical or Special Features

Highlights include:
- The name ‘Meanwood’ dates back to the 12th century, meaning Meene Wude – the boundary wood of the Manor of Alreton.
- The area played a role in the Civil War, where legend says the beck “ran red” – giving rise to the name Stainbeck.
- The Meanwood Valley was a hub of mills, quarries and tanneries from the 16th to 19th centuries.
- The historic parkland around Meanwood Beck once formed part of the Whalley family estate, later home to Captain Oates’ family before becoming Meanwood Park in 1954.
- The area is rich in preserved heritage structures, including old mill sites, quarry remnants and park gateways that form part of the Meanwood Conservation Area.

We are currently exploring the possibility of installing secure bike storage for households in the block that do not have access to a private garden. Before any decisions are made, we would like to understand whether this would be useful and supported by residents.
A consultation is taking place and will be fed back in due course.

Tree Survey on Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue
Share Tree Survey on Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue on Facebook Share Tree Survey on Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue on Twitter Share Tree Survey on Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue on Linkedin Email Tree Survey on Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue linkA tree inspection was undertaken on the Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue earlier in November to assess the trees in your communal areas and in your personal gardens. The tree inspection was carried out by our Community Spaces Manager & Matt Sellars who is a registered, fully qualified Arborist/Tree Surgeon.
Leeds Federated will soon be authorising the recommended tree works to the Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue. If you have any trees or shrubs in your personal garden that are of sentimental value such as a memorial tree and you do not want this removing, you should contact Tony Horncastle on 01133861028 or 07966885047 to advise of this. This is very important as once a tree is removed it cannot be replanted. Letters will be going out to all tenants on the scheme and the work will be carried out early next year.
We are not levying any charge to tenants for the work carried out on this occasion.
From April 2025 If tree work in personal gardens is required it will be the responsibility of the tenant to maintain the trees in their personal gardens. If we need to carry out essential tree work in any personal garden after 1st April 2025 this work will be rechargeable to the tenant.
Communal trees will be dealt with separately through service charges.
Please feel free to comment 😊

No-one knows your neighbourhood better than you and your neighbours, so to work out how the plan might look, we want to be guided by you.
A Neighbourhood Plan isn’t about “fixing problems”, it's about having a common goal of building a strong community. However, we will try our best to make your neighbourhood the best it can be for you and your community.
We want to know what's important to you and what you'd like to see in your community. We also want to hear what works well; is there someone in your community doing wonderful things for others that should be celebrated? Do you have an idea for your community, such as setting up a group activity that you’d like to arrange but need funding or resources to set it up? We can’t promise we can help with everything but let’s start the conversation.
Take part in the Survey
We'd love to hear from you and begin to get an understanding of how you feel about your neighbourhood.
Have your say now by taking part in the survey - this should only take a couple minutes to complete. Your answers will only be visible to Leeds Federated staff, and we'd really welcome your honest feedback.
Click the link to the survey at the bottom of this page to get started!
This survey will remain open and you are always welcome to complete this as a way to contribute to your neighbourhood plan.
What's Happened?
We held a drop-in session on Thursday 17 October 1.30 pm to 3.30pm at the Meanwood Community Centre as an opportunity to discuss creating this Neighbourhood Plan for your community.
We also hand posted leaflets during October with lots of different ways to complete the survey and other ways you can share your thoughts and ideas about your Neighbourhood.
What's Next?
Lisa has listed all of her upcoming Estate Inspections which appear as 'Key Dates' on the right-hand side of this page. Feel free to come and say hello when she is in your area!
We are now developing the Meanwood North Neighbourhood Plan which will be ready by January 2025. If you have any more ideas please do get in touch with Lisa.
Additionally, there are Tree works scheduled for Stonegates and Stainbeck Avenue - please read the news feed below for more information!
