Kirklees is a proud and diverse borough in West Yorkshire, known for its strong communities, rich heritage and beautiful green spaces. From bustling town centres to quiet residential neighbourhoods, it’s a place where neighbours feel connected and supported.
Residents enjoy a wide range of amenities, including local shops, healthcare services, leisure facilities and welcoming cafés and pubs across towns such as Huddersfield, Dewsbury and Batley. Hidden gems include Greenhead Park, Oakwell Hall Country Park and scenic walks along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, with family-friendly events taking place throughout the year.
Kirklees is made up of 23 wards, represented by local councillors who actively support community projects and neighbourhood initiatives. Councillors including Andrew Cooper, Karen Allison, Nosheen Dad and Moses Crook are involved in supporting local residents and improving services across the borough.
Community groups play a big part in local life across Kirklees. Organisations such as HOOT Creative Arts, S2R (Support to Recovery), Growing Works and Community Plus Kirklees provide activities, wellbeing support, arts programmes and opportunities for residents to get involved locally.
Getting around is easy with excellent bus and rail connections linking Kirklees to Leeds, Manchester and surrounding areas. Many neighbourhoods are within easy reach of supermarkets, schools, parks and healthcare facilities, making day-to-day life convenient for residents.
Residents enjoy access to a variety of green spaces including Beaumont Park, Crow Nest Park and the Pennine countryside, offering opportunities for walking, cycling and outdoor activities throughout the year.
Young people can take part in sports clubs, arts programmes and youth activities at community centres and organisations across Kirklees. Seasonal events, outreach sessions and holiday activities help keep families connected and engaged during the summer months and school holidays.
Staying active is easy with leisure centres, gyms, swimming pools and sports clubs located across the borough. Residents can support local teams, join fitness classes or enjoy recreational activities in the area’s many parks and open spaces.
Kirklees also has a fascinating history shaped by its textile and industrial heritage. From historic mills and canals to landmarks such as Oakwell Hall and the Colne Valley Museum, the borough celebrates a proud past while continuing to grow as a vibrant place to live and work.

We visited the area this month and found most areas were in good condition with no concerns. In Birkenshaw we have identified an area with a steep step and it has been agreed that railings will be fitted.
We’ll be in your area again on 25th and 26th June – all residents are welcome to join the area visit. We’ll be walking around the area, checking for repairs, health and safety issues and neighbourhood management issues. We want to hear from you, so please joinContinue reading

We offer practical & emotional support to families in Kirklees with at least one child under the age of 5 and not in full time education. We recognise the challenges of raising our children in a safe & nurturing environment whilst coping with the stresses of ill health, isolation, disrupted relationships, insecure housing, financial insecurity, trauma, abuse and loss. Sally Kerry is the Digital Inclusion Librarian at Kirklees Council. Sally is promoting digital inclusion for people on low incomes, and vulnerable individuals, who do not have access to the internet at home and would benefit from doing so for connecting with others, job search, etc.. This includes the 3-month loans of Chromebooks with internet access to people, along with 6 month SIMContinue readingI just wanted to make you aware of the current Kirklees Digital Inclusion offered through the Council, for those that do not know much about it, and how it may benefit you or people you may know.

Sally is promoting digital inclusion for people on low incomes, and vulnerable individuals, who do not have access to the internet at home and would benefit from doing so for connecting with others, job search, etc.. This includes the 3-month loans of Chromebooks with internet access to people, along with 6 month SIM cards with 40GB of data and unlimited calls for people to use in your own phones. There are also digital offers through Kirklees libraries where you can access digital newspapers, both national and international, along with digital magazines and audiobooks. This is open to everyone and is free of charge!
In order to express interest in obtaining one, you need to register for one on the My Kirklees website. If you are then authorised one, you would collect the item from the Studies Library on Victoria Lane. -

At Maple Garth we took out all the old unsightly shrubs and bark chippings and replaced them with a selection of beautiful easy maintainable plants and pebbles. Not only does it look amazing it has also reduced the upkeep costs which will have a positive impact on service charges moving forward.
Cliff Mews\Mount View, the developers have finally finished the landscaping and a fence has been erected to the rear of Cliff Mews which offers customer more privacy. there is still a little bit of work to do to theContinue reading
